Not Everything New is Better
Like all wedding photographers back between 2000 and 2010 we embraced the new DIGITAL cameras. They had become ultra reliable and offered so many "advantages" over traditional film cameras. They could shoot a thousand photos at a wedding. Their autofocus was miles ahead of previous film cameras (if they had autofocus at all!) The images could be edited afterwards to fix errors and enhance them. And there was no costs, such as film and processing attached to taking photos anymore.
Freedom
Or was it.....

These old cameras require thoughtfulness, patience and planning. They make you think about really what you want to photograph and how best to do it.
They force a wedding photographer to be better

Film Wedding Photography but with the assurance of modern tech.....
Film wedding photography is great as I'll explain later but there are some downsides so to give you the best of both the aesthetic of film AND the assurance of modern technology I combine these using my Leica M10 which whilst a digital camera is derived very closely from the 1954 Leica M3 Film camera and is renown for it's film like looking photos.

WHY Film Wedding Photography
1 / The Aesthetic
Film photos, both black and white and colour photos, have a certain timeless quality. They amplify the romance and emotion in a gentle manner that it's impossible to create with digital photos (I know, I've tried!)
2 / On Your WEDDING DAY
Digital allows us wedding photographers to take liberties that Film doesn't allow. With a manually controlled film camera
I need to think and plan ahead to get the photos I want. eg. With digital for the confetti shoots I'd get maybe 20 photos and select the 4 I want to use later - with film I'll get just 2 BUT these will be planned and set-up beforehand and likely be even better than the digital shots
3 / After Your Wedding
With Digital photos I'll select around 300 photos from the 15oo taken on your day and then edit these individually before uploading to your online gallery.
With film you get every single photo as a print - that'll be around 180 prints.
These are forever - make them into an album, get them framed, give some to friends and relatives.
They're REAL
