The Athenaeum at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is a popular wedding registry office and being only a few miles
from me is my "local" registry office; hence I've photographed many weddings here and then used the Abbey Gardens for Family and group wedding photos.
Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful market town in the middle of Suffolk. It dates back to Roman times and was the capital of East Anglia with an Abbey.
For me, as a wedding photographer, I find the Athenaeum and Abbey Gardens a perfect start to a wedding day. There's parking immediately outside the Athenaeum and whilst it is often quite busy I find it all just adds to the atmosphere. Once the ceremony is over and the confetti completed outside the Athenaeum the wedding party can walk the 50 meters to the Abbey Gardens.
A beautiful layout of formal gardens, a cafe, and open grass with Abbey ruins dotted around make for a great location for the wedding group and family photographs, and then later the newly weds with plenty of choice of locations enabling me to get some interesting photos.
I usually am the wedding photographer at around 6 weddings each year at Bury St Edmunds and following the ceremony and photos at Abbey Gardens the reception is at any one of the good selection of venues surrounding Bury.
From Ravenwood Hall - a beautiful Estate House set in lovely wooded gardens to a more child friendly Moreton Hall community centre where I was wedding photographer at Kali and Lance's wedding last year.
